Dedicated Forum Successfully Held
Advancing Industry Development Through Technology and Empowering Industrial UpgradingOn the afternoon of April 21, EWISH successfully hosted a dedicated forum titled:“From Technology to Perception: Building a New System for Efficacy Evaluation”The forum focused on key industry trends and core topics such as technological iteration in efficacy evaluation and sensory perception research. From a professional perspective, participants jointly explored new pathways toward standardized and scientific development in cosmetics efficacy evaluation.

The forum was moderated by Professor Zhao Hua, President of the Beijing Daily Chemical Industry Association, setting a professional, rigorous, and pragmatic tone for the discussion. The event also invited authoritative experts from universities, scientific research institutions, tertiary hospitals, leading industry enterprises, and the testing sector to share insights across fundamental research, methodological innovation, and case studies.

From Imaging to Mechanism: OCT and RCM Empowering Precise Efficacy Evaluation and Mechanistic Interpretation of Cosmetics. Dr. Tan Yimei, Executive Director, Skin and Cosmetics Research Laboratory, Shanghai Skin Disease Hospital.Dr. Tan presented on the application of OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) and RCM (Reflectance Confocal Microscopy) in cosmetics efficacy evaluation. She highlighted that, driven by stricter cosmetic efficacy regulations and rising consumer demand, both non-invasive imaging technologies have become core tools for precise evaluation:
· OCT enables deep skin structure and microcirculation observation
· RCM provides high-resolution visualization of epidermal cells and pigmentation
These complementary technologies are widely applicable in evaluating sensitive skin, anti-aging, acne treatment, and whitening efficacy. This approach transforms efficacy evaluation from subjective judgment into objective, visualized assessment, providing scientific evidence for cosmetic claims and enhancing industry credibility.

From “Sagging Face” to Quantification: Multi-dimensional Characterization and Predictive Modeling of Facial Laxity in Chinese Women. Liu Qi, Deputy Director, Cosmetics Efficacy Evaluation Testing and Inspection Center (Beijing), China National Light Industry Council.Mr. Liu focused on facial skin laxity among Chinese women and developed a quantitative evaluation model: the Facial Skin Laxity Index (FSLI).
By integrating expert assessment, consumer perception, and non-invasive physiological parameters, eight key indicators were identified. A Support Vector Machine (SVM) regression model was constructed to achieve quantitative prediction of facial sagging.
This model enables the transformation of facial laxity assessment from subjective description to objective quantification. It has been validated in combined internal and external anti-aging interventions, providing a scientific tool for efficacy evaluation, product development, and industry standardization, and promoting a shift toward data-driven anti-aging research.

Red Ginseng – A Dual Engine for Whitening in the Era of Emotional Skincare. Cheng Kang, Director of Traditional Chinese Herbal Research Center, INOHERB Cosmetics Co., Ltd.Ms. Cheng shared innovative applications of Rhodiola rosea (red ginseng) in emotional skincare and whitening. She noted that Rhodiola rosea from the Tibetan Plateau contains adaptogenic bioactivity that helps regulate the HPA axis and resist psychological stress. Its active components, such as salidroside, act on multiple targets to inhibit tyrosinase activity and MITF transcription, thereby suppressing melanin formation.
Research demonstrates that it can simultaneously improve both conventional pigmentation and stress-induced skin dullness. SEC23A has been identified as a key target.Based on this research, a third-generation Rhodiola “Oxygen Whitening Cream” was developed, offering stress-relief whitening, anti-oxidation brightening, and skin firming effects—providing a natural and gentle dual-engine whitening solution for emotional skincare.

Data-Driven Efficacy Skincare: A Scientific Closed Loop from Target Discovery to Market Claims. Associate Professor Pan Yao, Department of Cosmetics Science, School of Light Industry Science and Engineering, Beijing Technology and Business University. Professor Pan proposed a data-driven efficacy skincare system that builds a complete scientific loop from target discovery to market claims.
Addressing industry issues such as conceptual claims, unclear targets, and insufficient scientific communication, she used body pigmentation and pore-related concerns as case studies:
· Developed the first body pigmentation atlas for Chinese populations
· Identified high-incidence regions and classification mechanisms
· Determined key aging-related pigmentation targets
· Established a “Skin Pore Index” and grading system
· Revealed molecular pathways driving pore enlargement
Supported by multi-omics and machine learning, this framework connects basic research, product development, efficacy validation, and market communication, providing scientific and technological support for raw material development, brand innovation, and industrial upgrading.

The speakers further elaborated on technological upgrade pathways in efficacy evaluation, the relationship between sensory perception and efficacy claims, and the integration of theory, technology, and industrial application. The forum successfully established a high-level academic exchange platform, fully demonstrating EWISH’s professional foundation, industry influence, and platform coordination capabilities in cosmetics efficacy evaluation.
